I have jock itch and don’t know how to tell my girlfriend! Please help!

Are you wondering if your girlfriend will notice your jock itch?

Are you having problems in your groin area? Is it itching? Are you too embarrassed to talk about jock itch to your partner? Will she suspect about your fidelity and think that something else might be causing the problem down there?

If the answer is yes to the above questions you’d better tell her. You as a man should know how girls are when something is kept hidden from them. I think all men have been there (do you really want to go back?)

There is nothing to be embarrassed about. It is better to accept the problem once it is there and treat it as soon as possible. Jock itch is a mildly contagious too, so it’s better to let the cat out of the bag sooner rather than later (or risk the wrath!).

It is normal to have a certain level of discomfort when it comes to talking about problems regarding the groin area, genital area and sex in general. After all, it’t not exactly dinner time conversation (“So, honey, I have a itchy rash on my long john, please pass the peas”) – and if you find it hard to abstain from sex (pun intended), it’s probably better for you and your better half to lay off the night-time nookie until the rash is completely gone. However, keep in mind that jock itch is a very common groin rash, so you are not alone. There are plenty of men, all around the world having the same problem as you do. Understanding what a jock itch is, knowing how to recognize its signs and symptoms and knowing how to treat and prevent future jock itch problems is a must.

What is jock itch?

“Jock itch”, also known as tinea cruris, is a fungal infection which affects the genital area, inner thighs and buttocks of a man. It can affect women too, though men have a higher risk.

A jock itch is a form of ringworm. People often assume that ringworm is a type of worm, but it is, in fact a fungal infection. This ringworm, in particular, was named as “jock itch” because it is most common among athletes and otherwise very physical people who tend to sweat a lot. Heat and moisture represents a good environment for the fungus to develop, leading to rash in the affected area.

How to recognise jock itch

A jock itch presents itself as a red rash originating from the point of infection, usually around the groin, inner thigh or buttocks. It spreads out from this point outwards affecting other regions. The area under the rash often becomes flaky or rough but not painful to the touch, although it is usually itchy, just like the name suggests. Go figure!

Wearing clothes, however, may cause pain and discomfort as the fabric rubs against the rash. Along the border, too, you may notice small blisters at the edge of the rash. Not a pretty sight, but completely normal!

Although the infection is most common among men, women can also be infected by jock itch as it affects active people, regardless of gender. Besides, it is also possible to have both jock itch and athlete’s foot at the same time.

Jock itch and sex life

If you’ve got jock itch and a hankering for some night time loving, beware – the infection is transferrable during sex even (though this doesn’t always happen). And the latex sheild of a condom cannot prevent its transmission. The only way out is to get it treated before having sex again. Abstinence is recommended at least until the rash fades, usually 10-14 days after the treatment has started.

Be honest and tell your partner about your jock itch

Jock itch is described as mildly contagious medical condition because direct contact between the infected and uninfected individuals can transfer the ringworm. Even then, the newly infected individual has to provide a similarly moist and warm environment for the ringworm to grow, which does not always happen. Nevertheless, it is advisable to avoid sexual contact when you have the infection because the groin area is usually warm and moist regardless of the level of physical activity.

Besides with direct contact, sharing the same clothing or towels can spread the infection from one person to another.

So the possibilities of your girlfriend getting jock itch are high. But as mentioned, even when the fungi is spread through direct contact while having sexual intercourse or sharing the same clothes and towels, they will need to find a perfect, moist, and warm environment for them to continue to grow and multiply. This is not always the case, even though there is a great chance that your partner will get it too.

Be honest and talk about jock itch to your partner. There’s no sure-fire way to bring it up, though maybe don;t talk about it over a romantic, candle-lit dinner. There is always a good explanation of how you have got the dreaded jock itch, so discuss what treatment you are seeking (here’s some recommendations), and before you know it, you’ll be enjoying your sexual life again!

Treatment of jock itch

A jock itch often resolves on its own even without a treatment. The signs and symptoms of jock itch also tend to come and go and in persistent cases even antifungal pills are recommended.

A doctor will usually tell a jock itch just from looking at the infected area and noting the above symptoms. Sometimes, the rash may not be very clear, though, leading the doctor to suspect to other causes. In these cases, they may take a few scrapings of the skin from the infected area and have a look under a microscope or create a culture.

You have nothing to worry about if the diagnosis comes back positive, despite being uncomfortable or even embarrassing, as jock itch is not serious. Over-the-counter antifungal ointments can take care of the infection quickly. These medications can also come in the form of powders or sprays if you prefer, and the rash should disappear within a few days. Even then, keep applying the medication for at least 10 days to make sure it’s gone, (definitely gone!).

If you also have athlete’s foot at the same time, treat them both together because they’re both caused by similar fungus and can cause recurrence. Severe jock itch can be resistant to topical ointments, in which case the doctor will prescribe stronger creams although this rarely occurs.

Avoiding the infection

It’s always better to avoid the infection in the first place, rather than having to deal with it thereafter. Observing these simple steps will keep you safe:

  • Take a shower immediately after a heavy workout. Take an extra attention to the groin area. Afterwards, make sure you dry yourself off properly with a clean towel. Do not share a towel with anyone, and if possible, avoid public showers which can be a host to fungus.
  • During workouts or games and even afterwards, avoid wearing tight underwear if you can, or just make sure to keep them clean.
  • Obese individuals are also at risk of jock itch, but proper hygiene can keep the infection away.

10 Common Skin Irritations – Which One Do You Have?

Not sure if you are suffering from jock itch or something more sinister? Read on for a look at the 10 most common skin irritations.

do i have a jock itch skin condition?

Did you know that the skin is the largest organ in the human body? It has a total surface of about 2 square yards. It is an organ that separates the inside part of the body from the outside world. Skin also protects the human body from different bacteria, viruses, and fungi, but also regulates the body temperature. That’s cool huh? And worth protecting!

Different medical conditions and irritants can cause all kinds of various and unfriendly skin irritations including jock itch. There are a lot of different skin conditions, but chances are that you are suffering from one of the ones listed below. These are the 10 most common skin problems that affect both men and women:

Impetigo skin condition – What is impetigo?

skin condition inpetigo causes itchiness and redness

Impetigo is a highly contagious skin infection that usually occurs in infants and children (but can actually still occur on the skin of adults as well, though this is definitely less common!).

It is characterised by red sores located on the face around the nose and the mouth, which can totally be a potential date killer – think acne on steroids! Impetigo can also appear on the hands and feet. The sores burst with time and then serious crusts develop.

Treatment of impetigo typically means using antibiotic drugs in order to treat this skin infection. Children affected with impetigo should most definitely stay at home for a couple of days in order to prevent the spread of this infection to other children and adults. If you have Impetigo, there is good news! Impetigo is actually no longer contagious once the antibiotic treatment is started. This usually kicks in after the first 24 hours of the antibiotic treatment being started.

Intertrigo skin condition – What is Intertrigo?

Intertrigo. Close-up of an intertrigo rash and fungal infection in the lower abdominal skin folds of a male diabetic patient. The skin is red and inflamed. Intertrigo is an inflammation caused by warm, sweaty folds of skin rubbing repeatedly together. The affected area may blister and become odorous. Intertrigo is most common in the obese or elderly, and usually occurs on the thighs, armpits, breasts, folds of the abdomen, or between the fingers. Treatment includes weight reduction and keeping affected areas as clean and dry as possible. Fungal infections are common in diabetics; treatment is with anti-fungal medication.

Intertrigo is a nasty skin condition caused from friction.

Typically this friction is of the skin – to – skin kind. Intertrigo is usually located in warm and moist areas of the body, such as in the skin folds, on the inner thighs, under armpits, in the groin area, under the breasts, etc. (in this respect intertrigo is very similar to jock itch!).

In the affected areas the skin is more sensitive and sometimes even painful. In severe cases, it can result in oozing sores and cracked skin. Sometimes bleeding sores also occur – not a pretty picture! Intertrigo presents a good environment for any bacterial or fungal infections of the skin, essentially it creates an environment on the skin where bacteria will be lining up around the corner to grow on.
If the affected area is maintained clean and dry as much as possible, this skin condition will typically resolve itself! However, in cases when skin infections occur, drug treatment is necessary, this can be in the form of creams and cleansers.

Psoriasis skin condition – What is Psoriasis?

psoriasis is a skin condition similar to jock itch or tinea cruris

Psoriais is a super common skin problem that affects both men and women.

This skin condition changes the normal life cycle of the skin cells making them to grow rapidly. These extra skin cells form a thick, itchy, scaly texture which looks like dry skin with red patches, sometimes psoriasis can also be very painful. It is a persistent and chronic disease characterized also by periods of a total remission.

The real cause of psoriasis is not known, but it is believed that it results from problems of the immune system. There are different types of psoriasis known, like scalp psoriasis, plaque psoriasis, nail psoriasis, guttate psoriasis, pustular psoriasis, psoriatic arthritis, erythrodermic psoriasis, inverse psoriasis, etc.

The treatment aims to stop the formation and a quick growth of the new skin cells. There is no cure for psoriasis, but with certain treatments, a significant relief of its signs and symptoms can be achieved. There is no doubt that psoriasis can be particularly nasty.

Rosacea skin condition – What is Rosacea?

Rosacea is a skin condition similar to jock itch or tinea cruris

Rosacea is a common skin condition affecting mostly adults. It affects the skin of the face which tends to get red especially on the forehead, chin, cheeks and nose. The real cause of rosacea is not known. There is no treatment for rosacea, even though sometimes antibiotics can help minimize its signs and symptoms.

Atopic dermatitis skin condition – What is Atopic Dermatitis?

how-to-stop-atopic-dermatitis-from-spreading-and-becoming-tinea-cruris

Atopic Dermatitis is also known by its more common name of eczema. Eczema is a skin condition characterised by redness and itchiness of the skin. This skin condition is more common among children, but it can occur at almost any age, and in fact is still a leading skin condition in adults too.

Atopic dermatitis is a chronic skin condition that tends to get worse at certain times, followed by periods of sweet, peaceful, remission (before being plunged back into a world of dry skin and itchiness). Children having this skin condition have also problems with asthma or hay fever.

The exact cause of atopic dermatitis is not known (who would have thought the skin could be such a mystery!). However, it is believed that a mix of various factors contributes. Some of the known factors that can lead to atopic dermatitis include environmental conditions, certain types of bacteria like Staphylococcus aureus, a gene variation that affects the normal barrier function of the skin, dysfunctions of the immune system, etc.

The signs and symptoms of atopic dermatitis vary from one person to another. Characteristic signs and symptoms include: itchiness of the skin, especially at night, red patches on the skin, usually located on the feet, hands, ankles, wrists, neck, eyelids as well as in the upper chest. Sometimes even small and raised bumps on the skin may appear which tend to leak fluid and crust over if scratched.

The skin also tends to get thick, cracked and even dry. Even today, no cure has been found for atopic dermatitis. But worry not! Self care measures combined with certain types of medications can help relieve the skin rash and itchiness, as well as prevent the new outbreaks. This is one of the most common causes of skin irritation but with the right treatment can be mitigated successfully.

Contact Dermatitis skin condition – What is Contact Dermatitis?

how to stop contact dermatitis and other skin conditions such as jock itch

Contact Dermatitis is a skin condition caused by any irritating substance that touches the skin (a good example of contact dermatitis is poison ivy).

contact dermatitis can be caused by skin conditions such as poison ivy

Contact dermatitis is characterised by redness of the skin, skin bumps, blisters, crusts, and sores. Itchiness is super dooper common. Treatment usually includes washing the skin, steroid medications, anti – histaminic drugs. The most important thing is to avoid the substance that irritates the skin, as this is the actual causer of contact dermatitis (so no more rolling around in the hay ok! Yep, we ruin all the fun).

Heat rash skin condition – What is Heat Rash?

heat rash skin condition itchy itchiness relief

Also known as miliaria (not to be confused with milaria), is a skin condition characterized by small and itchy rashes that often pop up in the warmer seasons. For this reason heat rash is actually most common during the summer months. Heat rash can affect people of any age, but it is more common among children and infants. This is due to the fact that their sweat glands are underdeveloped and therefore cannot release the sweat the body needs to release in order to cool down. Heat rash tends to resolve itself on its own, but avoiding excessive heat, humidity and wearing light and comfortable clothes can help resolve this skin condition much faster. In this way it is very similar to jock itch.

Hives skin condition – What are Hives?

hives itchy skin relief medication suffering

Hives are also known by a name that is much more difficult to pronounce and much less cute. Hives go by the name urticaria, and is a skin irritation that comes suddenly due to an allergic reaction to a certain type of food or drugs. Allergic people are more likely to have hives than people who aren’t susceptible to allergies.
However, there is likely no person in the world who has never had hives in his/her life. So don’t think for a second you are wallowing in your hives skin condition on your own, you are not! Hives tends to resolve itself on its own, but in serious cases medical assistance is necessary.

Shingles skin condition – What is shingles?

what does shingles look like? Shingles is a skin disease that causes itchiness and redness.

The disastrous shingles is a skin and neurologic disorder caused by a reactivation of varicella – zoster virus (VZV). The VZV virus is the same that causes chickenpox.

People who have once had chickenpox in their life can have shingles many years later as the virus remains dormant in the nerve tissue near the spinal cord and brain. The signs and symptoms of shingles usually occur on one side of the body, never crossing the medial line. Characteristic signs and symptoms of shingles include pain in the affected area, a burning sensation, numbness and even a tingling sensation.

The affected area has a higher sensitivity to touch. Redness and skin rash starts a few days after the pain, accompanied also by fluid – filled blisters that tend to break and crusts develop. Itchiness of the affected area is also very common as well as high fever, fatigue, headache, etc. There is no cure for shingles, but antiviral medications and symptomatic treatment tend to relieve its signs and symptoms as soon as possible, also preventing possible complications. Shingles is a very serious condition, so if you think you may have shingles you should definitely take yourself off to the doctor immediately!

Lichen Planus skin condition – What is Lichen Planus?

what does lichen planus look like? Skin itchiness and redness, sore itching relief

It is a common skin problem, characterised by lesions or bumps on the skin. The skin lesions tend to spread over a few weeks and moths all over the body. Itchiness is common in the affected areas. This skin condition tends to resolve within 6 to 16 months.

Oh, and lets not forget the mother of all horrible, painful and embarrassment inducing skin conditions….drum roll please…. The one, the only, jock itch.

You didn’t think we had forgotten jock itch did you?

scratch balls to relieve jock itch itchiness

Jock itch, otherwise known as tinea cruris (yes jock itch and tinea cruris are the same thing!) can be a complete bummer but at least you can take comfort in the fact that you are not suffering from jock itch alone.

Did you know that as much as 7/10 men suffer jock itch symptoms at least once, it’s super common.  And whatever you do, don’t let the name fool you, you definitely don’t need to be a jock to get yourself some crotchy itch!
That being said, Tinea Cruris is common with athletes, sportspeople and anyone who sweats consistently. Jock itch is definitely more common in the male side of the species but women can get jock itch too (the underside of the boob is a common spot – what would that be called? Boob itch?).
Jock itch occurs more in people of an overweight variety as there is more skin chafing and general sweating, and man boobs (aka. Meatloaf!).

So what causes Jock itch?

Well, it can be caused by even the most simple things.

  • Sweating
  • Hot and humid weather (suddenly that holiday to Thailand ain’t looking so good!)
  • Friction. This can come from wearing tight clothes (especially wet bathing suits).

Obesity and diabetes have been proven to soften your immune system. This can increase your chances of being susceptible to the danger down under.

Sugar can cause jock itch

  • Stop tinea cruris by reducing intake of sugary foods

Oh, no you have a sweet tooth! However, if it’s taking your peace day and night, then you’ve got to let it go. It’s worth the sacrifice, believe me. Foods high in sugar makes fungi grow fast! You eat, but the fungi sucks it all up and multiplies.

Replace sweets, cakes and sodas with fruits and vegetables. Also, taking too much alcohol and beer can also hasten the growth of yeast in the crotch. So, who’s getting drunk now?

Take healthy fruit smoothies instead of grabbing that beer. Starve the fungi and they will run!

  • Use alcohol.

Now that we’ve agreed that you should reduce your alcohol consumption, you can use it to get rid of the itch by rubbing it on the infected area.

It dries up the crotch and makes the fungus pack and go because they cannot survive in a dry area. Why not let them go and look for a warm and moist area elsewhere and save you the itching crotch the trouble?

Dip a cotton ball in alcohol and dab it on the affected area. You don’t even need to wipe as it will evaporate on its on. Repeat this multiple times daily to get the results.

  • Take more probiotics to stop jock itch.

Increase consumption of fermented products like yoghurt and sour porridge to increase the number of good bacteria in your system as it will fight and eliminate the fungi. Be sure to take these on a daily basis, especially if you’ve been taking antibiotics.

  • Practice good hygiene.

In order to get rid of jock itch completely, proper hygiene is also extremely important. Take a shower every day, especially after workouts. If you sweat too much, ensure to shower frequently during the day.

If you you’re a sports junkie shower immediately after the game to get rid of the sweat build up. Want to take selfies with the beauties? Take a shower first otherwise your hand may betray you by reaching out down there for a scratch.

Also, wash workout clothes immediately after sports and avoid storing them when they are wet to prevent build up of germs. You can wash underwear with bleach to destroy the germs that are trapped in them.

Also, don’t wear underwear’s for long periods, as sweat will build up. Make sure to change your undergarments every day and after every bath.

You may want to shave more frequently because keeping an “Afro” down there makes a nest for fungi to hatch and live forever!

  • Keep your crotch dry!

Fungi love a warm and moist crotch. Prolonged wetness triggers growth of fungus. You make its Christmas come early. However, if you dry the area completely, then you drive them nuts and they leave completely.

After taking a shower, dry the skin completely using a clean towel to prevent retaining moisture, which is a perfect environment for fungi to thrive.

It’s important that you don’t use the same towel on the rest of your body. Designate a special towel for your crotch to avoid spreading the infection.  If you sweat a lot, consider to use drying powders after bath.

In addition, remember never to share your towel or underwear. Sharing is caring – but the itchiness is scary! Think about that.

wear loose fitting clothing to cure jock itch

  • Wear loose fitting cotton fabrics.

Loosen up your big man and give him space to breathe. Can you stay alive, covered up in nylon paper, even for a second? I don’t think so. Now, imagine the agony you put on your big master down there when you cover it up with annoying nylon.

Wear loose fitting underwear to avoid rubbing and friction in your crotch that will cause scratching. Wear cotton underwear and avoid synthetic and nylon fabrics. Cotton absorbs the moisture and keeps the area dry. Nylon undies will make it itch more.

Use mild soap and warm water when taking a bath. Avoid heavily perfumed bathing soaps, washing detergents and fabric conditioners because they may cause further irritation.

  • Lose some weight to lose the jock itch

Being overweight makes your thighs rub each other excessively and can make them itchy and inflamed. You can wear fitting shorts to reduce the friction between the thighs.

Also, obese people tend to have low immunity, which increases the risk of fungus infections. Eat less processed foods and exercise every day; take the stairs instead of the lift and walk every day to lose some weight. The link between obesity and jock itch is proven

  • Avoid scratching

Keep your hands off your crotch as scratching makes it worse. Keep your nails short to avoid getting infected.

Also, wipe private parts after visiting the toilet because if you don’t it will itch and you will be tempted to scratch.

General thoughts on the Champion Men’s Boxer Brief

When you step up to attack your jock itch craziness your first plan of attack should be to control the battlefield. Because as Chuck Norris would know, to win the war you gotta own dat battle field.

Anyway, here are 2 good rules to follow when combatting Jock Itch.

Rule no. 1 – Keep it Dry.

First rule of Fight Club is to never talk about Fight Club. The first rule of combatting jock itch however is to keep your balls hanging dry! That means being smart about what you wrap your balls in. Wick away material is a massive must.

Rule no 2. – Keep it Light.

Breathable, light fabrics are the only way to go when fighting your crotch rot. Anything heavy is going to annihilate your crotch with heat and moisture.

Luckily for us, this boxer brief answers both of these important rules. These bad boys are “champions” at staying light due to their fabric mix of 58% cotton/37% polyester/5% spandex. This makes ‘em flexible, giving you ultimate mobility while still being light. It also gives them the ability to wick sweat away from your body, which is vital (as the rules necessitate)!

When it comes to combatting jock itch, if you can control the battlefield, you can win the war. In other words – If you can keep your crotch dry then you can really limit the amount jock itch can take hold, or in many cases – stop it happening completely.

The single most powerful way to do this is in the choice of underwear you wear.

When choosing the best underwear for jock itch prevention then there are two rules you should adhere to.

Rule no. 1 – Keep it Loose.

Yep, as stated in our “What is the best underwear for jock itch” article – you have to remember to let your balls breathe. Jock itch loves dark, sweaty places more than a fat kid loves cake so keep it loose, keep it breezy.

ExOfficio-Give-n-Go-Boxer-man-in-chair

Rule no 2. – Keep it Light.

Breathable, light fabrics are the only way to go when fighting your crotch rot.

So, with these rules in mind, you can see that the ExOfficio Give-N-Go boxer ticks all the boxes. Remember the fight against Jock Itch starts in your wardrobe.

Why are the ExOfficio Boxers so good?

Ok, you’ve heard our general thoughts on the product, but we thought we’d dig in a little deeper to explain why they topped our list for fighting itchy balls!

ExOfficio-Give-n-Go-Boxer-Image3-Diamond-Mesh

Diamond-weave mesh fabric.
What! These undies are made out of diamonds?!?! No way?!

Calm down dude, they are NOT diamond encrusted underwear. Though that’d be pretty darn sweet.

Instead, what we’re talking about here is the way the fabric is weaved into a diamond pattern. Why the hell would anyone want to do that you say. Well it’s simple. By weaving it like this the fabric takes on a super strong, super durable quality, all while being really, really breathable. If the fabric was just weaved normally (such as how cotton is) then the strength and breathability wouldn’t be there.

The Aegis Microbe Shield and its straight up scientific odour killing powers.

The Aegis Microbe Shield is a bad ass scientific odour killing machine. We’re not exactly scientists here at Jock Itch Crusader but here is a video worth looking at that dives deep into the insane science behind it all.

Simply put, some geeks got sick of their shit stinking and decided to do something about it. Needless to say, the following happened – they saved the day, the quarterback became their best friend and they pulled all the chicks. Seriously, that’s how it went down. Ok, maybe not.

Drying time.

Ok, so drying time isn’t really super important to the effectiveness these boxers will have on your jock itch concerns, but…they do help give you an idea of how good this fabric is at drying and staying dry when they are on you.

In our tests we found that they would dry in about an hour and a half if hung up in a bedroom. No not in the sun, and not in front of a fan. Just wrung out as you would normally. That’s pretty darn good in our books!

I used these originally for their fast-drying and anti-microbial abilities, but the thing that convinced me to wear these long after necessity was their comfort. I will wear exofficio boxers for the rest of my life because they are far more comfortable than any cotton, nylon, or silk boxers I have ever worn.”

Barely any sweat down there even on the hottest days, and this is coming from a man who works outside, and has for 16 years, 42 weeks a year, in the sun and heat, next to a 165 degree piece of metal. I have experienced chafe, many times BAD- this made me go out and search for the right pair of boxers. I don’t enjoy briefs, nor boxer briefs, I like to hang LOOSE.”

Amazon review Great Boxers! Amazon Customer – 5 out of 5 stars (5 / 5) – “
I am a pretty heavy sweat kind of guy and these really keep me comfortable when it gets hot. The other really nice thing which puts them at the top is the comfortable waist band. This is the one area I didnt like as much on the Patagonias after a long day. I have 7 pairs of these now for everyday wear and they last for years.”

Cons

  • It’s a powder, so it can get a little messy if you are not careful.
  • Can be hard to find in drug stores and chemists.

General thoughts on Zeasorb Super Absorbent Antifungal Treatment Powder for Jock Itch.

Zeasorb jock itch powder can be a super effective tool against the invasion of jock itch to the unruly lands “down there”.
It’s not a cream, but is actually a powder! (to see what we think of jock itch creams vs powders, visit our head to head article here).

This means that, if applied correctly, you won’t have to actually touch the affected area, whereas with creams you will.

This powder actually has a cooling sensation when applied, which can help greatly to alleviate the initial burning and itching sensations that accompany jock itch. Zeasorb’s powder is super absorbent too. So if you tend to sweat more than the average person you’re in luck.

Excess Sweating Can Cause Jock Itch

This powder will keep absorbing moisture long after you apply it, keeping you dry where it counts. To see why this is so important to combating read our article on curing jock itch effectively here.

The main ingredient is Miconazole!

Ok, you’ve heard our general thoughts on the product, but we thought we’d save the best ’till last!
Here’s the main reason why Zeasorb Jock Itch powder is so effective against everything from ringworm to adults foot and of course jock itch!
The active ingredient in the powder is a little hard hitter called Miconazole Nitrate. This active ingredient is a whopping 2% by weight. This product doubles nearly all other jock itch cures you will find in stores and online. This being said, even though it packs a punch to any jock itch you may have, It actually is very tender and soft on the skin.
With Miconazole Nitrate 2% as the main ingredient a lot of people see symptoms such as itching and scratching disappear within a week, sometimes even 2-3 days.
It is best to continue treatment for at least 2 weeks though to make sure you have truly won the war and beaten the enemy!

Important information about Zeasorb Jock Itch Powder.

  • This powder is super simple to use. Simply clean the affected area and dry well (a quick blow of the hair dryer can help with that!). Then get out the powder and apply a thin layer to the area. If you are doing it right your junk will look a little like christmas morning after a night of fresh snowfall. Do this daily for 2 weeks for best results! See you doc if symptoms aren’t receding.
  • Make sure to use this application for the full period prescribed by your doctor or pharmacist.
  • If you have not seen a doctor, make sure to follow the packages suggested application and duration periods (typically 2 weeks).

What other customers are saying.

Amazon review – Great anti-fungal powder!! – Mrs Robinson – 5 out of 5 stars (5 / 5) – “
This powder is great on yeast type infections because the base of it being the anti-fungal whereas baby powder and other powders do not have the anti-fungal which actually causes the yeast to breed. I learned that the hard way!
Anyway, if you’re looking for an anti-fungal powder this is the best one I’ve found!!
Stay dry and itch free – dermatologist recommended.”

Amazon review – Bought for Son – Veronica – 5 out of 5 stars (5 / 5) – “
I bought it on recommendation from my son’s dermatologist. The dermatologist said to wash the groin area, towel-dry, THEN use a hair dryer on a low setting (this was news to me). After all this, making sure the area is completely dry, sprinkle on the powder. This is now my son’s daily regime. And it works.
So, there you have it – advice, free of charge, from me and our dermatologist! :).”

Amazon review – DFresh  – 5 out of 5 stars (5 / 5) – “
I tried different creams and powders, with little to no success, and this product eliminated the problem. I would highly recommend this product to anyone suffering from jock itch.”

How to treat ringworm and kick this skin infection for good!

Sometimes, what you think is a classic case of jock itch, is actually a problem with jock itch’s old school buddy…ringworm.

This might raise some immediate concern as you probably expect to find only one ‘worm’ in your pants (see what we did there!)! Nevertheless, ringworm is no cause for alarm because it can usually be treated at home without a trip to the clinic.

What is Ringworm?

Despite the name, ringworm is not caused by some slimy, tubular creature crawling around in your trousers. Rather, ringworm is considered a fungal infection. Doctors and scientists call it tinea, which somehow works out to mean “growing worm” in Latin. When talking about ringworm in the groin, that translation opens up a whole can of worms (no pun intended, ok… maybe a little) for jokes, but we’ll leave that for another time.

In most cases, ringworm presents itself as one or several small, crusty lesions on the skin’s surface. These rough patches of skin are usually circular in shape and reddish in color. At first glance, it is easy to confuse ringworm with a patch of blisters. Nonetheless, you’ll always recognize ringworm by its circle-like shape.

this is what ringworm can look like

If you are one of the guys who has the unfortunate experience of finding ringworm below your boxer shorts, you’re probably trying to figure out where it came from. The most likely answer is that you contracted it from some other poor soul. The fungus that causes ringworm is highly contagious. It is commonly picked up from the germ farms found in public bathrooms, locker rooms and community showers. Any surface that has come into contact with infected skin could harbor the fungus; however it is most likely to grow in warm, moist environments.

ringworm thrives in moist environments

You can also get ringworm from direct contact with an infected person or animal. Thus, it’s possible to get ringworm from a hot lovemaking session, borrowing your buddy’s basketball shorts, or simply by sticky an unwashed hand down your pants for some impromptu scratching.

To your dismay, once ringworm is introduced to your crotch, it tends to find a nice place to set up camp. The warm folds of the skin, along with daily perspiration, give it enough gusto to catch your attention with a flare up. You’ll probably get the message pretty quick because ringworm infected skin will feel warm, itchy, and slightly painful to the touch.

How is Ringworm Similar to Jock Itch?

The first obvious similarity is that these two skin conditions share an affection for the crotch area. However, the commonalities don’t just end there. Both are also caused by the same type of fungus, and they can both induce itchiness and discoloration of the skin. Furthermore, you can bring either of these home as an uninvited guest following a visit to the gym, or the employee shower stall at work.

In the bigger scheme of things, jock itch is actually considered a type of ringworm. You can think of ringworm as jock itch’s cruel older brother. Due to the close relation, there are also similarities in how to treat ringworm jock itch.

How Is Ringworm Different From Jock Itch

These two unpleasant groin invaders mainly differ in appearance. Jock itch is a red (or pink) rash that sets up shop in the fold of skin between the upper leg and pubic area. From there it can spread further down the leg, or even to the buttocks. It is also not uncommon for a person with jock itch to spread the fungus to the feet, thus causing athlete’s foot.

Athletes foot is similar to ringworm

Ringworm shows up as a circular rash of rough, red-colored skin. It may also have a bumpy texture around the circumference. Ringworm likes to travel and can move to areas outside of the groin, such as the thighs, legs, or arms. It is also possible to have ringworm on other parts of the body without it ever showing up in the groin.

How to Treat Ringworm?

Ringworm sounds tough, but its bark is louder than its bite. It’s not hard to learn how to treat ringworm jock itch. The typical treatment involves applying an anti-fungal ointment or cream (see our top cream performers here) for a week or two. There are many over the counter products that can get the job done, but creams with Terbinafine are usually the best bet. In more severe cases, you may want to head to your local doc to get a prescription for anti-fungal pills.

How to Stop Ringworm from Reappearing

Once you finally beat the worm, you’ll want to make sure it doesn’t visit again. All you’ll need to do to stay ringworm free is use a little common sense. Make sure to keep your skin clean and dry. Change your clothes regularly, and make a special effort to get out of sweaty clothes as soon as possible. You should also avoid putting on clothing right after a shower to allow your skin to completely dry out. For more tips look at our “How to get rid of Jock Itch” article here!

You’ll also want to remember to keep your hands and belongings to yourself. Don’t share items like clothes, towels, or any sports equipment that touches the skin. Also make sure to take a thorough shower after hitting the gym or participating in sports. Moreover, make sure you always wear sandals when you shower at public locations, and clean yourself with anti-bacterial soap.

This point about soap is a big one, because as Confucius say “prevention is the best cure”.
If you wash every day with jock itch preventative soaps even when you don’t have jock itch then you’ll definitely be substantially lowering your chances of getting it. We have listed the BEST soaps on the market here – “What is the best soap for jock itch?“.

Now that you have read this article, get out there and send your ringworm packing! Good luck (not that you’ll need it now!)!

Sunbaking Can Help Cure Jock Itch Naturally. Seriously!

Did you know that in the right doses, sunlight can actually help to cure jock itch naturally ?

jock itch can be cured by sunbaking in the sun
Imagine this
– you’ve got that itchy sensation on your groin and you’re having to live through embarrassing moments when you’re in public and itchiness attacks to the point where you can’t help but scratch. Like the time you were at the grocery store in the cue to the cashier. Suddenly you get such itchiness that it completely overwhelms you and you can’t do anything but scratch. Just as you feel a wash of relief from rubbing your balls up against the magazine stand, an old grandma comes hobbling up behind you and WHACK, hits your back with her umbrella and accuses you of being a pervert. You try to tell her it’s just jock itch but she obviously forgot to put her hearing aid in that morning!

Don’t worry, we’ve all been there, well maybe not in that exact scenario, but others like it!

medicated cream fo skin conditions

I’m sure you’ve tried a lot of things already applying all those topical anti allergens even taking oral antihistamines; even tried the natural healing means such as tea tree oil or water and salt. You’ve tried all of those treatments yet you’re still unsuccessful eradicating that terrible embarrassing itchiness.
Well, we have another, slightly unorthodox, way to treat your skin conditions.

Have you heard that the fungi tinea cruris that the itchiness, multiplies tremendously on moist, dark, folds of your groin especially if you’re a bit heavy set. Since it thrives and multiplies on dark and moist areas why not expose that to the sun light? Yes, direct sunlight can have a wonderfully positive effect on your ailment, just make sure you do it in private, unless of course you have the body of some sort of greek god! Maybe you have a private space with a bit of sun in your backyard or on your apartment verandah? Privacy is a must as chances are you’re gonna be in the nude doing it. I’d suggest you check the height of your fences too. You don’t want neighbours to witness your genitals exposed to the sun and air. Or maybe you can put a sign beside you saying you’re under treatment need the exposure – they might feel sorry for you and chuck you a couple of bucks, though likely not! Oh, and if they are neighbours you don’t like then chances are they won’t bother you any longer, that’s for sure.

nude beach

Another option is nude beaches.
Are there any within your area? Maybe you can meet others that has the same problem and purpose as you. Then you can organize a group – the advocates of jock itch nudity! – good idea isn’t it (you do it first and tell us how you go!)?

One thing that’s for sure is that the sun’s light does help to kill bad bacteria. It is proven that sun light has beneficial effect on skin disorders especially caused by fungi/yeast. Yes you heard it right, yeast, similar to what is found in your bread. You see, this yeast thrives on your skin when it is dark and damp with sweat. If you’re diabetic and you have a sweet tooth, the fungi’s going to be very happy with the presence of sugar too!

Don’t lose hope if you’ve tried everything your doctor advised you to do.

You may have followed your doctors advice step by step, taken medications and applied different topical ointments or creams without change. Maybe you need to focus on what you can do to help this process naturally. The safest way to do that is dry the area and expose to the sun light for 15 minutes. And what better way to do that than to flaunt it. Ever heard the saying “If you have it flaunt it.” Well you do have jock itch, expose to the sun light. Bring along a friend especially those who have the same skin problem as you have. You can even compare notes and share your own remedies. Or organize a competition for such problem and get some sponsors for the prizes. Hmmmmm great idea isn’t it? You could be starting the next great movement! What would you call it though? “Go Naked and Nuke Your Nuts“?

All joking aside, direct sunlight can have a wonderful effect on your jock itch problem.

If you can find a private place to reap the suns benefits then you should definitely give it a shot. You would want to do it continually for a sustained period of time – 15 minutes a day for a week would help dramatically.

Oh and remember – wear sunscreen!

I have Jock Itch! Should I change my diet?

Have you ever wondered why at times you feel itchiness in areas that are concealed.

Areas such as in your groin? Upper thigh? In your armpit? In between your toes? Even your scalp especially during the summer season when the weather is so hot and damp? Are you a person who sweats a lot? Bet it makes you embarrassed to feel such itchiness especially when you’re in public?

The truth is Jock Itch can be very embarrassing. I mean, imagine yourself in the middle of a very important meeting or job interview when you feel this itchiness in your private areas!

Don’t worry though, we’ve been there too! And we have the answers to get you and your skin in tip top condition again. In this article we’re going to be focussing on your diet, and how that impacts your jock itch!

Well, I’m sure by now you are aware of what it looks like:  circular, red, raised rash with elevated edges; changes in skin color; it is itchy, chafing or even burning sensation in the groin, and it can also be on your thigh or even in your anal area – and boy oh boy is it uhhhgly!!

Have you ever wondered what caused this sudden development in your body?

tinea cruris can be caused by a bad diet
Well, it is a fungi called tinea cruris.  Though all of us have microscopic fungi and bacteria living in our bodies it becomes felt when there is a moisture or wetness in the folds of the groin and insides of the thighs that is not properly dried.  This fungus multiplies and thrives as it is their perfect environment, kinda like a pig in shit!
Jock itch is triggered when there is prolonged moisture and friction from the clothes with the movement of the body.  It is very common to those that are overweight as fungi thrive on skin folds that are prone to sweating.  Even for those who are not overweight yet fond of wearing too tight clothing (think less Eminem, more Russell Brand) it does contribute to jock itch. Tight clothing can cause sweating and keep the skin from drying.

Can you get that easily?  Oh yes, it is highly contagious.  It can be contacted and spread through skin-to-skin contact so be very careful who you’re with on a spontaneous intimate relationships. Give your girlfriend the heads up too, jock itch can be transferred to women (what! No way!!!). You can even get that through touching used and unwashed clothing – especially underwear with the infection. So beware, before touching anything soiled clothing and even directly touching the skin on the joints which has folds and most of all the groin area. Look closely before touching anything!

When you do have jock rot already what can you do?

Here’s some tips that can help you ease the itch and eventually cure the infection. There are several commercially prepared topical and even oral medications for it. You can also have some options on home remedies if you are too embarrassed to go for consultations.

For self care treatment antifungal creams, powders and sprays are available in the drugstore. The best tip is to wipe thoroughly and keep dry after taking a shower or bath with clean towels.  Never use same towel to wipe other parts of your body.  Change clothing daily especially underwear and choose a cotton material. Identify types of fabric that causes irritations on your affected skin.

How does diet affect jock itch? Is there are particular jock itch diet that you can follow to cure it?

Nutrition does play a MASSIVE role in the prevention and treatment of jock itch. Just like how Arnold Schwarzenegger said “Ab’s are made in the kitchen”, the same can be said for jock itch – They say you are what you eat, and if you’re filling your face with unhealthy shitty foods, you can’t blame your body for hating on you! Put simply, eating natural foods would help detoxify any toxins in your body.  So Clean up and eat right buddy!

There are a several ways that fungus can infect the human body.  In fact, fungus is not a topical problem, it can appear on your skin, like jock itch, but also on your nails or scalp. Although topical solutions can be effective as a jock itch treatment, treating the problem systemically are really important. Findings on some medical research say that oral medications can be effective, but it can create a strain on your liver because it is difficult to metabolize. However, the amazing alternative to medication is to adjust your diet.
In reality, a change in diet normally requires a larger lifestyle change. This is an important consideration to attack the infection from all angles, just like a swat team dropping into take out a target!  Here are a few tips on how to tinker with your diet and get rid of your jock itch problem. Best bit is you will become healthier and sexier as well!

Vegetables can help cure tinea crurisAn important food intake for curing skin conditions is vegetables.

According to the US Department of Agriculture men should consume 2 ½ to 3 cups of vegetables daily and women 2 to 2 ½ cup of vegetables daily.  It does have high content of vitamins and minerals needed by the body and generally fat free, low in calories that help you to keep caloric intake within the required healthy range. More veggies will put the good stuff in your body to help it fight off the bad stuff! Think of vitamins as your internal rocket fuel!

Add yogurt to your diet to help skin conditions
Are you fond of yogurt? Well, if you have tinea cruris infection it’s time for you to love yogurt.

It is a dairy product that contains lactobillus acidophilus which is a health bacteria that helps to reduce the any presence of yeast or bacteria forming in our body.  So remember to consume yogurt (up to 3 cups daily) because it contains high contents of helpful bacteria.

Ok, now onto the bad stuff – Foods to avoid:

Sugar can cause jock itchFirst of all avoid too much sugar in your diet as tinea crusis loves sugar and does thrive on it.

When you have too much sugar it goes out of your sweat and it keeps the fungi multiplying more. Remember you can get sugar from fruit too, so limit your fruit intake to one to two pieces a day! Anyway, you’re sweet enough!

Carbs can cause jock itchExcessive intake of carbohydrates

Too much alcohol intake and refined flour can contribute to the multiplication of fungi in the body.  So stay away from carbs to help reduce jock itch and if the itch still persists totally eliminate your intake. The paleo diet is really good for reducing jock itch!

Are you aware of some food items that are known to have anti-fungal properties?

Researches points out some foods with anti-fungal properties.  You must love eating garlic, onions, carrots, ginger, oregano and grapefruit seed extract. Consider eating a clove of raw garlic and raw onion every day, and you will find out that it will reduce your infection – though your breath might stink!

Most of all if you’re overweight there is a need to loose weight to lessen the fold of the skin where it becomes moist during sweating.  And as much as possible avoid wearing nylon type of fabric cotton fabric is more comfortable and appropriate.

These tips are gonna help you smash your jock itch suffering.

It’s not the end of the world! There is a solution to your problem and it starts with your stomach! Try these tips and stay healthy and happy.

Amazon review – Great Stuff – Satisfied Customer – 5 out of 5 stars (5 / 5) – “Great stuff: I have tried at least six different brands. Some gave temporary relief, some made the jock itch worse, and Lamisil helped immediately and the condition went away in three days. I wish I could get my money back on all the other brands that were inaffective. The only problem is finding the Lamisil spray on a drug store shelf?
I did find it in ointment form at K-Mart. I am going on Lamisil’s site to ask where available on a store shelf in my city or if I can buy direct. It worked for me when all the other popular name brand spray’s and ointments/creams did not.”
