Sunbaking Can Help Cure Jock Itch Naturally. Seriously!

Did you know that in the right doses, sunlight can actually help to cure jock itch naturally ?

jock itch can be cured by sunbaking in the sun
Imagine this
– you’ve got that itchy sensation on your groin and you’re having to live through embarrassing moments when you’re in public and itchiness attacks to the point where you can’t help but scratch. Like the time you were at the grocery store in the cue to the cashier. Suddenly you get such itchiness that it completely overwhelms you and you can’t do anything but scratch. Just as you feel a wash of relief from rubbing your balls up against the magazine stand, an old grandma comes hobbling up behind you and WHACK, hits your back with her umbrella and accuses you of being a pervert. You try to tell her it’s just jock itch but she obviously forgot to put her hearing aid in that morning!

Don’t worry, we’ve all been there, well maybe not in that exact scenario, but others like it!

medicated cream fo skin conditions

I’m sure you’ve tried a lot of things already applying all those topical anti allergens even taking oral antihistamines; even tried the natural healing means such as tea tree oil or water and salt. You’ve tried all of those treatments yet you’re still unsuccessful eradicating that terrible embarrassing itchiness.
Well, we have another, slightly unorthodox, way to treat your skin conditions.

Have you heard that the fungi tinea cruris that the itchiness, multiplies tremendously on moist, dark, folds of your groin especially if you’re a bit heavy set. Since it thrives and multiplies on dark and moist areas why not expose that to the sun light? Yes, direct sunlight can have a wonderfully positive effect on your ailment, just make sure you do it in private, unless of course you have the body of some sort of greek god! Maybe you have a private space with a bit of sun in your backyard or on your apartment verandah? Privacy is a must as chances are you’re gonna be in the nude doing it. I’d suggest you check the height of your fences too. You don’t want neighbours to witness your genitals exposed to the sun and air. Or maybe you can put a sign beside you saying you’re under treatment need the exposure – they might feel sorry for you and chuck you a couple of bucks, though likely not! Oh, and if they are neighbours you don’t like then chances are they won’t bother you any longer, that’s for sure.

nude beach

Another option is nude beaches.
Are there any within your area? Maybe you can meet others that has the same problem and purpose as you. Then you can organize a group – the advocates of jock itch nudity! – good idea isn’t it (you do it first and tell us how you go!)?

One thing that’s for sure is that the sun’s light does help to kill bad bacteria. It is proven that sun light has beneficial effect on skin disorders especially caused by fungi/yeast. Yes you heard it right, yeast, similar to what is found in your bread. You see, this yeast thrives on your skin when it is dark and damp with sweat. If you’re diabetic and you have a sweet tooth, the fungi’s going to be very happy with the presence of sugar too!

Don’t lose hope if you’ve tried everything your doctor advised you to do.

You may have followed your doctors advice step by step, taken medications and applied different topical ointments or creams without change. Maybe you need to focus on what you can do to help this process naturally. The safest way to do that is dry the area and expose to the sun light for 15 minutes. And what better way to do that than to flaunt it. Ever heard the saying “If you have it flaunt it.” Well you do have jock itch, expose to the sun light. Bring along a friend especially those who have the same skin problem as you have. You can even compare notes and share your own remedies. Or organize a competition for such problem and get some sponsors for the prizes. Hmmmmm great idea isn’t it? You could be starting the next great movement! What would you call it though? “Go Naked and Nuke Your Nuts“?

All joking aside, direct sunlight can have a wonderful effect on your jock itch problem.

If you can find a private place to reap the suns benefits then you should definitely give it a shot. You would want to do it continually for a sustained period of time – 15 minutes a day for a week would help dramatically.

Oh and remember – wear sunscreen!

I have Jock Itch! Should I change my diet?

Have you ever wondered why at times you feel itchiness in areas that are concealed.

Areas such as in your groin? Upper thigh? In your armpit? In between your toes? Even your scalp especially during the summer season when the weather is so hot and damp? Are you a person who sweats a lot? Bet it makes you embarrassed to feel such itchiness especially when you’re in public?

The truth is Jock Itch can be very embarrassing. I mean, imagine yourself in the middle of a very important meeting or job interview when you feel this itchiness in your private areas!

Don’t worry though, we’ve been there too! And we have the answers to get you and your skin in tip top condition again. In this article we’re going to be focussing on your diet, and how that impacts your jock itch!

Well, I’m sure by now you are aware of what it looks like:  circular, red, raised rash with elevated edges; changes in skin color; it is itchy, chafing or even burning sensation in the groin, and it can also be on your thigh or even in your anal area – and boy oh boy is it uhhhgly!!

Have you ever wondered what caused this sudden development in your body?

tinea cruris can be caused by a bad diet
Well, it is a fungi called tinea cruris.  Though all of us have microscopic fungi and bacteria living in our bodies it becomes felt when there is a moisture or wetness in the folds of the groin and insides of the thighs that is not properly dried.  This fungus multiplies and thrives as it is their perfect environment, kinda like a pig in shit!
Jock itch is triggered when there is prolonged moisture and friction from the clothes with the movement of the body.  It is very common to those that are overweight as fungi thrive on skin folds that are prone to sweating.  Even for those who are not overweight yet fond of wearing too tight clothing (think less Eminem, more Russell Brand) it does contribute to jock itch. Tight clothing can cause sweating and keep the skin from drying.

Can you get that easily?  Oh yes, it is highly contagious.  It can be contacted and spread through skin-to-skin contact so be very careful who you’re with on a spontaneous intimate relationships. Give your girlfriend the heads up too, jock itch can be transferred to women (what! No way!!!). You can even get that through touching used and unwashed clothing – especially underwear with the infection. So beware, before touching anything soiled clothing and even directly touching the skin on the joints which has folds and most of all the groin area. Look closely before touching anything!

When you do have jock rot already what can you do?

Here’s some tips that can help you ease the itch and eventually cure the infection. There are several commercially prepared topical and even oral medications for it. You can also have some options on home remedies if you are too embarrassed to go for consultations.

For self care treatment antifungal creams, powders and sprays are available in the drugstore. The best tip is to wipe thoroughly and keep dry after taking a shower or bath with clean towels.  Never use same towel to wipe other parts of your body.  Change clothing daily especially underwear and choose a cotton material. Identify types of fabric that causes irritations on your affected skin.

How does diet affect jock itch? Is there are particular jock itch diet that you can follow to cure it?

Nutrition does play a MASSIVE role in the prevention and treatment of jock itch. Just like how Arnold Schwarzenegger said “Ab’s are made in the kitchen”, the same can be said for jock itch – They say you are what you eat, and if you’re filling your face with unhealthy shitty foods, you can’t blame your body for hating on you! Put simply, eating natural foods would help detoxify any toxins in your body.  So Clean up and eat right buddy!

There are a several ways that fungus can infect the human body.  In fact, fungus is not a topical problem, it can appear on your skin, like jock itch, but also on your nails or scalp. Although topical solutions can be effective as a jock itch treatment, treating the problem systemically are really important. Findings on some medical research say that oral medications can be effective, but it can create a strain on your liver because it is difficult to metabolize. However, the amazing alternative to medication is to adjust your diet.
In reality, a change in diet normally requires a larger lifestyle change. This is an important consideration to attack the infection from all angles, just like a swat team dropping into take out a target!  Here are a few tips on how to tinker with your diet and get rid of your jock itch problem. Best bit is you will become healthier and sexier as well!

Vegetables can help cure tinea crurisAn important food intake for curing skin conditions is vegetables.

According to the US Department of Agriculture men should consume 2 ½ to 3 cups of vegetables daily and women 2 to 2 ½ cup of vegetables daily.  It does have high content of vitamins and minerals needed by the body and generally fat free, low in calories that help you to keep caloric intake within the required healthy range. More veggies will put the good stuff in your body to help it fight off the bad stuff! Think of vitamins as your internal rocket fuel!

Add yogurt to your diet to help skin conditions
Are you fond of yogurt? Well, if you have tinea cruris infection it’s time for you to love yogurt.

It is a dairy product that contains lactobillus acidophilus which is a health bacteria that helps to reduce the any presence of yeast or bacteria forming in our body.  So remember to consume yogurt (up to 3 cups daily) because it contains high contents of helpful bacteria.

Ok, now onto the bad stuff – Foods to avoid:

Sugar can cause jock itchFirst of all avoid too much sugar in your diet as tinea crusis loves sugar and does thrive on it.

When you have too much sugar it goes out of your sweat and it keeps the fungi multiplying more. Remember you can get sugar from fruit too, so limit your fruit intake to one to two pieces a day! Anyway, you’re sweet enough!

Carbs can cause jock itchExcessive intake of carbohydrates

Too much alcohol intake and refined flour can contribute to the multiplication of fungi in the body.  So stay away from carbs to help reduce jock itch and if the itch still persists totally eliminate your intake. The paleo diet is really good for reducing jock itch!

Are you aware of some food items that are known to have anti-fungal properties?

Researches points out some foods with anti-fungal properties.  You must love eating garlic, onions, carrots, ginger, oregano and grapefruit seed extract. Consider eating a clove of raw garlic and raw onion every day, and you will find out that it will reduce your infection – though your breath might stink!

Most of all if you’re overweight there is a need to loose weight to lessen the fold of the skin where it becomes moist during sweating.  And as much as possible avoid wearing nylon type of fabric cotton fabric is more comfortable and appropriate.

These tips are gonna help you smash your jock itch suffering.

It’s not the end of the world! There is a solution to your problem and it starts with your stomach! Try these tips and stay healthy and happy.

How To Cure Jock Itch Effectively and Quickly

how to cure jock itch quickly and effectively

Jock itch is a widespread, itchy rash of the inner thigh, anal area and the groin.

It can be an extremely severe itch, which is associated with a pink or red rash involving the genitals and groin folds. Jock itch is mostly a skin condition in men.

It can be very agonizing waiting for this jock itch to disappear. The burning, itching and unsightly rash can actually make waiting until it goes away seem like an eternity.

Since the very last thing you would want to do is to spend the entire day scratching yourself, you have to find jock itch cure as fast as you can. Try the treatment options below to help keep jock itch away.

1. Use an anti-fungal cream.

You can buy cheap creams containing miconazole or clotrimazole. These will take a bit longer to work compared to the expensive ones, but they will efficiently eliminate jock itch.

Even when symptoms disappear, you should apply the cream to your groin for the period indicated on the package. Just similar to how you take antibiotics until you complete the medicine, you have to follow the entire treatment regimen with your cream. Find Treatment for athlete’s foot all together if you have it. Treating athlete’s foot will reduce the possibility for recurrence.

2. Keep the skin clean and dry

Make sure you dry yourself thoroughly after a bathe since fungus thrives in moist and warm environments. Whenever you can, go either naked or without an underwear to expose the affected part to f air. When that is not possible, at least put on boxers rather than briefs.

3. Avoid wearing clothing that irritates or rubs your crotch

Keep away from tight pants and tight underwear of any kind.

4. Refrain from scratching

Scratching irritates the rash and could also break your skin, hence creating the possibility for infection. Trim your finger nails if you’re unable to stop scratching and wear gloves while going to bed at night.

Take a cool shower for relief. Sprinkle baking soda, uncooked oatmeal or colloidal oatmeal into the water that is specifically made for bathing. Try drying your crotch thoroughly once you are from the tub.

5. Talk to your doctor if symptoms persist

Ensure you talk to your doctor if scaly redness does not disappear within some weeks, if it gets worse or if you realize that it oozes and has turned yellow. Your doctor will be glad to provide you with some options:

Prescription creams: Doctors may perhaps prescribe prescription for anti-fungal including oxiconazole and econazole.

Antibiotics: If the jock itch has been infected, doctors might prescribe antibiotics to help clear the infection.

Oral anti-fungal Prescriptions: Sporanox, Diflucan or Lamisil there are certain oral medicines that your doctor can prescribe for you. You might experience abnormal liver function or gastrointestinal problems. If you are taking anti-acids, you most likely should not take such medications. Other options may take a longer time to work but appear to be good for those who are sensitive to other anti-fungal or people who have conditions which makes taking other medicines a bad idea.

Any man can identify the symptoms of this dreaded fungal menace. If you want eradicate jock itch, take the aforementioned jock itch cure to get rid of the fungus.

Is jock itch Contagious?

Is Jock Itch Contagious - can I spread tinea cruris?

The Down Low on Down There.

Tinea cruris, more commonly as jock itch, is a painful fungal infection of one’s nether region. It can occur for both men and women, but the male species seems to dominate those infected. The infection is normally located in the deep skin creases around the groin. If you are suffering from jock itch, then you probably feel like you need to scratch your balls like mad. Unfortunately, polite society keeps you from doing alleviating your desire for such a relief.

The itching sensation can actually spread to your inner thigh and to the buttocks as well. The area in question will be dry, red, and flaky; it would be similar to a major chaffing situation. Worse cases of jock itch might even start to blister and form pustules. Gross, right? You will feel as shy as a virgin until you get it cleared up. Fortunately, there is a jock itch cure. Read below to find out how to avoid it in the first place, and how to clean that mess up.

Is Jock Itch Contagious?

One of the most common questions asked concerning this condition is, “Is jock itch contagious?” This infection normally occurs when you already feeling sick. A weak immune system is one of the biggest contributors to jock itch. However, the biggest incubator is clothing that is too tight. If you like wearing your spandex boxer briefs, then you might need to let up on it for a few weeks for your jock itch to get better. The infection needs to breath because fungus thrives on moist, dark areas.

For the best results, try not to share any clothing or towels with you cronies. Used towels are a breeding ground for this kind thing. If you do not want its ugly head appearing on your body, do not share!

The Jock Itch Cure.

One of the most important ways to keep jock itch from spreading or occurring in the first place is to not wear tight underpants. This means no tighty whities, g-strings, banana hammocks or anything similar. You will need to stick to nice and loose boxers or kilts. Your skivvies need to be cotton because synthetic materials will make you sweat unnecessarily. You can also prevent this from happening by showering after any athletics, and always use anti-fungal cream to be on the safe side.

However, if the rash does appear, then you will need to keep it dry and clean. Always dry yourself of completely after any excessive sweating or water activities.

You will apply an over the counter anti-fungal cream that will help you battle the ugly jock itch. You can also take Benadryl or use hydrocortisone cream to keep the rash from hurting and becoming too inflamed. If you believe your rash is pathetically bad, then it never hurts to visit a doctor. They will be able to prescribe you a stronger cream or pills. Jock itch a painful situation, but care and attention will keep it from occurring.

Stay strong fellow crusader!

Cure Jock Itch Fast!

how to cure jock itch fast. How to cure Tinea Cruris fast.

Help me cure my jock itch fast!

When you experience any of the signs and symptoms associated with jock itch, the only thing you can think about is how to cure jock itch fast.

Whether you are considering a pre-prepared jock itch cream that you can purchase over-the-counter or you would prefer some form of home remedy, what you need is a fast jock itch cure.

When considering your choice of remedy, it is important to understand if your case of jock itch is caused by excessive moisture in the groin area or due to a fungal infection. Perhaps it is a combination of both. Treating a fungal infection typically takes longer, though relief from annoying symptoms may be felt shortly after beginning treatment.

For jock itch caused by excessive moisture, it is important to keep the affected area clean and dry. That means washing with a gentle cleanser and patting the area dry with a soft towel. To heal the groin area quickly, it is important to avoid clingy or nylon skivvies while you are waiting for the magic to happen. Wear loose-fitting cotton undergarments to avoid additional sweating and chaffing. It’s often beneficial to avoid fabric softeners in the laundry during this time, which could irritate raw and rashy skin.

To speed up healing, a fast jock itch cure involves a vinegar sponge bath to the affected area. Once a day, sponge off your groin area with 1 part of vinegar mixed with 4 parts water and allow to dry for a few moments. Blot off excess moisture with a towel if necessary. Be sure the area is completely dry before dressing or you risk creating an ongoing problem.

You may wish to use some sort of anti-fungal powder or jock itch cream to speed the process along. This is really only beneficial if your jock itch is caused by a fungal infection, though plain unscented powder can help keep the groin area dry.

Another home remedy involves the use of diluted bleach water on the affected area. You need to sit in extremely diluted water to which a small amount of bleach has been added. Whether this works or not may have to remain a mystery, as bleach and gonads do not seem to be a compatible combination, jock itch or no jock itch.

How to cure jock itch fast when it involves a fungal infection is a little more difficult.

It takes time to kill fungus in the groin area due to skin folds and possibility of moisture retention. However, washing the area twice daily with a shampoo that contains ketoconazole or selenium sulfide will help. Follow this with an application of anti-fungal cream (see our comparison chart here).

Severe cases of fungal jock itch can also benefit with the addition of anti-fungal oral prescription medications that can be prescribed by your doctor. This combination of treatments can help to cure fungal jock itch fast.

Why does my jock itch at night? Jock itch 101

why does my jock itch at night? Tinea cruris.

Why does my jock itch at night?

Jock itch can be a real b**ch! This is no more so than at night.
Many people experience the worst jock itch as they are preparing for bed and as they are trying to dose off – it can drive you bonkers!

Before we get to why this happens lets quickly break down what Jock itch is.

What is Jock Itch?

Painful, itchy, embarrassing, and frustrating are just a few of the words that describe the common, painful condition known by the names: jock itch, crotch rot, crack smack, or simply balls on fire. Men are the most common sufferers of jock itch although women can be infected.

Jock Itch (and it’s cousin Athlete’s Foot) are actually caused by a ring worm known as Tinea Cruris. Ring worms are not like earth worms, they are actually a fungus. Usually the condition begins in the crease of one’s thigh and spreads to the upper thigh. Jock itch usually appears as a red, often scaly rash with blister like bumps at the edge of its formation. The more infected the area with the rash the redder it will appear.

If you are suffering the Tinea Cruris infection, it’s a good idea to take action right away because the condition can spread. Don’t despair with good hygiene and an effective antifungal cream for jock itch you can quickly eliminate the condition.

What causes Jock Itch and how do I prevent it from happening?

Fungal infections like jock itch thrive in moist, hot conditions. If you wear a cup and jockstrap, a tight bathing suit, or dirty underwear you are creating conditions for jock itch to take root. Often times persons suffering from Athlete’s Foot spread the fungus infection to their groin area.

Some suggestions to prevent Tinea Cruris infection include:

  • take a shower immediately after working out and dry yourself fully
  • wear flip flops if you are using a public shower
  • change into clean underwear and socks every day
  • don’t wear tight underwear or pants
  • get treatment as soon as you detect any symptoms
  • lose weight, obese people tend to get infections more
  • stay healthy, those with weak immune systems are more vulnerable to fungal infections

So…Why does my jock itch at night?

If Jock itch at night is keeping you up (as it commonly does!), it is important to realize that while you are sleeping, especially underneath a pile of covers your body heat (and sometimes sweat) are may be aggravating the condition. When you scratch Tinea Cruris you may be spreading the infection and therefore compounding your misery and discomfort.
So, whatever you do – DO NOT SCRATCH.

How do I get rid of jock itch so I can sleep!?

If you find yourself with this miserable infection do not despair, take action including:

  • use an effective anti fungal cream for jock itch and apply it according to the directions
  • change your underwear and socks frequently
  • try to sleep in a cool environment where you won’t sweat as much
  • use a dandruff shampoo, apply it to the affected area, and leave it on for a few minutes

Unfortunately it make take a week or two to get rid of your jock itch. As the infection recedes make sure to keep up the treatments or it may return. If for some reason the condition does not significantly improve after a week or two you should make an appointment to see your doctor or a dermatologist.

While jock itch can be a frustrating condition, it is also fairly common so there is no need for you to feel embarrassed or ashamed. Anti-fungal treatments are available at most pharmacies (see our comparison chart if unsure what cream to choose!) and if you are unsure about instructions don’t hesitate to ask your pharmacist for help or leave a comment below.

Female Jock itch – is it possible?

Is Female Jock Itch Possible?

Can a female get jock itch? They don’t even wear jockstraps!

When most people think of jock itch they think of athletic young men retiring from the Lacrose grand final with one hand in the trophy and another in their undies doing the pants dance to relieve their itch! While it may be true that Jock itch is prevalent in young men, it is also common in females too!

Whaaaaat! But they don’t even wear jockstraps!

You’re right, females have escaped having to wear Jockstraps (though they still have to wear high heels…suckers!), but you have to understand jock itch is only the colloquial term for the skin disease Tinea Cruris. This is specifically a ringworm of the groin (eww gross!). This can take the form of a rash, and is attracted to warm, dark and damp places. This rash can spread from the more common area of the groin to the inner thigh, buttocks, and even (for a female) under the breasts.

So what causes female jock itch?

Symptoms may develop if the groin and vaginal area remain moist for a long time. After a shower or exercise is typically the most common time these symptoms can develop.
Naturally, female athletes tend to be more susceptible to Tinea Cruris than their non-sport loving sisters, this is due to the fact they sweat more, wear clothing and underwear made from synthetic fabrics and can go a long time without showering (if they have more than one game of sport in a row for instance).
Female jock itch can also come about from contact with an infected person such as a crotch rot carrying boyfriend or husband.

Diagnosing Jock Itch in females.

Jock itch resembles other skin diseases such as seborrheic dermatitis or yeast infections. To make sure the jock itch condition is not confused with another form of skin disease it is important to see a doctor or gynaecologist as soon as possible. With the right diagnosis the correct product to treat the jock itch can be chosen.

Treating Female Jock Itch.

If you are in good health female jock itch may go away without any medical intervention, do note that this may take longer than if assisted by various creams, soaps and powders
.
For a persistent jock itch, there are many various ways to treat it, including home remedies and many successful over the counter products such as a topical antifungal cream, lotion, or powder (See our comparison table here for an educated buying decision).
It can take 2-3 weeks for the jock itch to completely go away, though even then you should still use the medication for the whole recommended period.

If your jock itch is particularly severe you may require a sequence of antibiotics, though this shouldn’t be taken lightly and should only be implemented under the strict instruction of a doctor as side effects can be harsh. For those not comfortable with antibiotics, there are a number of natural remedies for jock itch that can give you quick relief, no matter if you are a man or woman. Have a look at our top 10 natural remedies here.

Preventing Female Jock Itch

Prevention is the best form of relief! A woman with great vaginal hygiene will in most cases stop jock itch from ever occurring!
A must follow rule is to keep the groin dry at all times. This means showering and drying immediately after exercise. If you don’t, you risk turning your vaginal area into a breeding ground for tinea cruris.
Also, do not share towels, clothing or other personal items with anyone else! You’d hate to give it to your partner, so you are best to Inform them that you have jock itch and never underestimate how contagious it can be!

A good tip can be to use a blow drier to help dry the area completely.

Honey

Applying pure honey to skin infected by jock itch can provide a simple and effective cure.
There is an inhibitory property in honey that directly attacks the fungus that cause itching, redness and burning associated with jock itch.

How to apply.

  • Simply apply honey to the affected area directly and you will see a marked improvement in itchiness.
  • A classic bacteria fighting formula is equal parts honey, olive oil and beeswax. Apply this 3 times a day for a two week period to see a marked improvement you can count on.

Onions

The humble onion is natures wonder-drug when it comes to fighting the bacteria that causes jock itch. It’s an anti-fungal, antibiotic and anti-inflammatory all in one.

How to apply.

  • Chop up an onion and grind until you create a paste.
  • Apply this paste of onion directly to the affected area.
  • Leave the paste in contact with the skin for 20-30 minutes and then rinse ad dry the skin thoroughly (utilising a blow dryer is best).
  • Onions can be a good immune booster too, so try to add them to your daily meal to for an overall positive effect.

Listerine

You wouldn’t think it but Listerine can be a fantastic cure for jock itch. Listerine is used to keep mouth bacteria at bay so it makes sense that it could have a positive effect when applied to jock itch.

Listerine’s biggest positive is that it can provide instant relief to the inflammation and itchiness of jock itch. The alcohol in Listerine is also very effective in sterilising the skin and knocking off the bacteria.

How to apply.

  • Lightly dab the infected skin with a cottonbud soaked in Listerine.
  • You will experience stinging when applying, though this will give way after a couple of minutes to relief and comfort.
  • Repeat 4 times per day for best results.

We are leading the crusade to rid you of jock itch once and for all!

So you have jock itch, it’s keeping you up at night, driving you crazy in the day and getting worse. Well, don’t worry my itchy amigo, you’re not alone.

Did you know that 7/10 men suffer jock itch symptoms at least once, it is a super dooper common ailment and with our free help and guidance you will find the cure to the dreaded itch.

What is Jock Itch (aka “crotch rot,” “leper balls,” “red balls” and or course “Argghhhhhh!”)?

The whistle blows, your team just has won a hard fought victory in the final seconds! Now, heading back to the showers you think about all of the great things you’ll receive for your efforts. Trophies, bragging rights, admiring glances from that special someone.

But there’s something else you’re getting for your troubles…and it’s starting to burn!

You’re now getting up close and personal with the blasted enemy of men the world over – Jock Itch. This very common villain is a fungal infection that targets the upper thighs and into the groin. To put in in doctor speak the medical term is Tinea Cruris, and for those of us not versed in the medical tongue, is pronounced tih-nee-uh krur-us.

Like many other tinea infections, jock itch is caused by different types of fungus called dermatophytes – another name for itchy f**kers.

Dermatophytes are microscopic fungi that live on dead tissues of hair, skin and nails (gross huh!). They thrive in moist, warm areas – which is why the upper thigh area is such a common spot for Tinea Cruris.

When you get all sweaty and don’t dry as well as you should, you’re creating the perfect environment for jock itch to thrive. Go buy a cowboy hat cause you’ve got a little Tinea Cruris farm right between your legs!

Why do I have Jock itch? I’m not a Jock!

Don’t let the name fool you, you don’t need to be a jock to get the itch! Tinea Cruris is however a very common issue for athletes, sportspeople and anyone who sweats a lot! It is more common in guys, but girls can get it too (even under their boobs!)! It’s also common in the more heavy set crowd, where chafing and wear and tear are abundant (even under their man-boobs!).

What are the common causes of Jock itch?

Jock itch can be caused by the simplest things.

  • Sweating
  • Hot and humid weather (get out of Florida!)
  • Friction from wearing tight clothes especially wet bathing suits

If you have other health conditions like diabetes and obesity, these may cause problems with your immune system and increase your chances of experiencing the red balls revolution.

How do I know if I have jock itch?

Ok, so we know what jock itch is and how it can be caused. So how do you know if what you have is actually jock itch?

Jock itch symptoms include:

  • Redness of the skin in groin, thigh and bum areas
  • A chaffing, burning and/or itching
  • Red, raised rash that is elevated from unaffected skin
  • Flaking, cracked skin that is easy to peel away.

How do I get rid of it? What is the jock itch cure?

Ahh! The answer you have been waiting for!

The good news is Jock itch can usually be treated with self care. Unless you have a particularly nasty case, an embarrassing trip to the doctor is likely not needed. Don’t be concerned if it is though, this is a very common illness and doctors would have seen it many times before!

Over the counter creams, powders and sprays will usually be able to clear it up. See our special comparison table further down this page to make an educated decision as to what will work best for you!

There are also natural jock itch remedies available that will deliver the jock itch cure you have been looking for. Check out our top 10 natural jock itch cures here!

5 steps to cure jock itch.

Ok enough is enough, let’s cure this (b)itch once and for all!

When it comes to healing Jock itch and other such fungal infections the most important rule is to keep the area dry! Repeat after me…Keep… it… Dry!

Follow these steps to stop jock itch in its tracks:

  1. Thoroughly wash the area with un-perfumed soap. Perfumed soaps may trigger a worse response.

  2. Use a clean towel to dry the area. Do not use this same towel on the rest of your body – keep a towel separate just for your groin.

  3. Apply your anti-fungal cream, powder or spray as instructed on the label. See our special comparison chart below when deciding what will work best for you.
Please note that even when the symptoms disappear (and they will), you need be a good Jedi and follow the package instructions – otherwise the Dark Side will own your balls.

  4. Change your undies every day!

  5. Avoid wearing any tight fitting underwear, wear loose fitting briefs or boxers, or if your an adventurous fox…go without!

  6. Don’t scratch jock itch!
This will irritate your itchy areas and make the condition worse. If you break the skin you put yourself at risk of infection.
If you can’t stop scratching then at least trim your nails. If you find yourself scratching in your sleep it may be best to wear cotton gloves to sleep at night – There is a jock itch cream that is specially formulated for night time itching.

If you follow these 5 simple steps you should see a full reduction of your jock itch in a matter of weeks. You will know what it feels like to stand tall, both hands in the air (and not in your pants) like a true crusader!

The time it takes to get there will definitely depend on what treatment you choose. Some creams and powders, whilst being more expensive, can be much, much speedier in curing jock itch. For a comparison effectiveness see our special Jock itch cure comparison table here.

Should I go to a Doctor for my Jock itch?

There’s nothing more awkward than a visit to the doctor when you know he/she’s gonna be peering at your junk.

The good news is Jock itch doesn’t not usually have to be escalated to a doctor, however if you are suffering a particularly bad case of Jock itch and after two weeks of over the counter treatment are still suffering symptoms then a doctor may have to prescribe you a stronger course of medications. Don’t worry though, while it’ll be super embarrassing for you, they’ve seen it all before, many times and will not bat an eyelid.
